I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

I usually use a combination of guided discovery, question-and-answer, and hands-on approaches to teaching and learning. I have taught both French and Mathematics at the college level, have tutored Math, Physics and Chemistry at the college level, and have substituted in high schools and junior highs as well. As a research mathematician with GE, I have explained mathematical concepts to adults with a wide range of backgrounds.

One of the things I enjoy more than anything is helping someone to understand not only the specific principals of the subject matter, but the WHYS and WHEREFORES so that as that student encounters real world examples he/she will quickly be able to adapt and be successful. I am a patient teacher who "has been there" and wants to help anyone I can. I have been working as a company CFO and VP Finance in excess of 40 years. There is virtually nothing I do not know regarding accounting and finance. This will provide students with real world experience as well as the principals required in a course study. I also have expert experience in Excel and Word. In addition, during this time I have been instrumental in tutoring employees who have worked for me. This numbers in the hundreds over the years.
