I Help Students Tackle Math With Confidence!

I have enjoyed the personal gratification of tutoring since high school. Since I was 15 years old, I have shared my knowledge and love of mathematics with people of all ages. I attended Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology, where I received my Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. I also tutored my peers at these institutions. My goal is to help students understand the foundation and theory behind math concepts, so that they can tackle any math problem with ease and confidence. Confidence is key!
I bring both personality and creativity to math sessions, and I am concerned with the intellectual and emotional well-being of all tutees/students. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : Passed virtual testing.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. I was a teaching assistant during my graduate school, from 1975 to 1980. I was assisting in College level Mathematics courses, including Algebra, Calculus, CAE applications. The only other experience I had was in assisting my kids during their high school studies and did not do a bad job. One of them is a Hardare Test and Validation Engineer at Intel, Portland, Oregon and the other one is doing Medicine at U. Of M.
Tutoring a student who is not doing too good in his subject is not a one or two class job. I will plan the need depending on the versatility, devotion and perseverence to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, the stress, confusion, and (ultimately) joy involved in the attempt to master new subjects are fresh in my memory. While nothing can replace experience, I believe that being young provides me with an edge over those older than me when it comes to connecting with students.
