Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Sign Language is fun to learn! I have taught children, teens and adults who are beginners through advanced signers. Many colleges now accept ASL as a foreign language just like Spanish, French, etc. I am a hearing teacher and I have taught hearing, deaf, hearing impaired, speech and language impaired and autistic people and their families how to communicate using sign language. I will make each lesson enjoyable and suit it to your needs.

I have been a classroom teacher and a tutor for children, teens and adults who are deaf, hearing impaired, speech/language impaired, social/emotional impaired, cognitive delay, autistic, ADHD, etc. I have also taught early childhood children from birth. I can communicate using sign language and cued speech. I have experience teaching dyslexic children, teens and adults using the Orton-Gillingham philosophy. I am Pro-Literacy certified and I am a STAR certified trainer.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from Florida State University, I received a job at DISC Village in Tallahassee Florida as a Prevention Counselor in the Beta program. This program was school-based and involved working with at-risk middle school students at Wakulla Middle School. My duties included instructing 12-26 students in 6th-8th grade in social skills, behavior improvement, drug prevention, and study groups/tutoring sessions. I developed individualized student plans according to each student's needs. Also, I did extensive work in one-to-one or small-group situations, assisting students with assignments, achieving learning outcomes, and meeting behavioral goals. I am a graduate of Florida A&M University with a BS in Political Science, I am currently completing my MA degree at Barry Univeristy in Tallahassee, Fla. I was a Resource Teacher and wokred in the Innovation School of Execellence. I was Executive Director at a Christian Academy in Live Oak, Florida. I was also Director of the SES program (that was a sub-site)at our academy. I staffed 15 employees, 5 of which was retired accredited teacher. I also taught in our SES program.

I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade special education for the last twenty years. I have had experience working with students who were struggling learners including my own child. Sometimes teaching means showing a different way to do it. I have learned the skills needed for students to learn and remember what they have learned. I have tutored many students and all have been successful in the classes they were being tutored.
Learning needs to have importance to a student. They need to understand why they need to learn the things they are being taught. Then it makes more sense to them. If possible, teach to their strengths. If they like computers, find a website that gives them practice. If they are better writers than listeners, have them dictate and read it back to you. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been in the teaching field for 2 years now and I love it. Although I've taught during VBS and other church functions, I have been in the Gadsden County School District for 2 years. I enjoy teaching. It is my passion. I believe that all children can learn with the guided instruction, love, and attention. I have taught in the Elementary filed until the recent budget cuts.
