I really enjoy working with students on an individual basis. I have found that some students feel embarrassed about asking questions while surrounded by classmates. The one-on-one environment helps the student open up and truly benefits the student. Therefore, it is important to me to create a welcoming setting where the student will feel comfortable. Through my teaching experiences, I have observed that most students have trouble figuring out how to start chemistry problems. I like to help the student create a mental flowchart of how to approach problems. Once the student gets over that initial hurdle, his or her potential really begins to shine.

I have 9 years of experience in teaching chemistry and physics at the high school level. Additionally, extensive experience teaching/tutoring a myriad of other subjects, such as, earth science, algebra, trigonometry, biology, CPR/first aid, GED prep and various adult education classes. I also have 15 years of practical laboratory experience as a laboratory chemist with increasing levels of responsibility.
To teach is to "impart knowledge or skill to somebody by instruction or example" while education is defined as "to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction". I am a recent graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a BS in Wildlife Conservation Biology. My academic background includes much coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, other sciences, and math. I won a scholarship due to my high GPA in the sciences, and was also a Coastal Fellow - doing a research project with the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and presenting my results in a scientific poster during a special presentation.
