I really enjoy working with students on an individual basis. I have found that some students feel embarrassed about asking questions while surrounded by classmates. The one-on-one environment helps the student open up and truly benefits the student. Therefore, it is important to me to create a welcoming setting where the student will feel comfortable. Through my teaching experiences, I have observed that most students have trouble figuring out how to start chemistry problems. To teach is to "impart knowledge or skill to somebody by instruction or example" while education is defined as "to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction". I aspire to be an educator, as defined above. While I believe in the content of the sciences, I am interested in evoking the thought process to utilize the scientific method as a problem solving technique applicable to all areas of life. A Little Bit About Me...

During my Doctoral candidate years, I worked as both a engineering lecturer and laboratory instructor for 3 different engineering fields. The fields were circuit design, applied mathematics and practical laboratory equipment usage. I also gave lectures in Applied Optics (physics) for Seniors at Clarkson University during my last Doctoral year (1984-85) at campus.
Informal for large groups as I wanted the students to see me as like them, but with enough capability to inspire them to listen. I learned early on you cannot make anybody learn anything. You must inspire them to want to learn. At the 1-on-1 setting (tutoring level), I work at a very detailed level with the particular student I have with me at the time. Each one is sufficiently different to warrant different teaching approaches to maximum effect and retention.

I very much have a "hands-on" teaching style. I am a visual learner myself, so my teaching style reflects that methodology.
