A Little Bit About Me...

I teach by example, leading the student through a problem by asking questions about each step so that they can learn how to approach the problem themselves. I watch and evaluate the students as they work and provide guidence when thy make errors. I enjoy interacting with children of all ages and I do so in a kind and curteous manner. I am a good listener and have the patience and skills to understand where a child needs the most help.
In my acedemic training I have taught Lab classes in general, analytical, organic, biochemistry and advanced chemistry courses. Numerous studies have shown that children have different learning styles. I believe that tailoring to a student’s individual style is the most effective way to teach. Consequently, the first session will be spent in identifying your child’s unique style. Before tutoring begins, I like to sit down with the parents and student to identify educational goals. Once goals and learning styles are identified, it is easy to come up with an individualized study plan for your child.

I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I love all people. I am an advocate of task-based learning, multiple intelligences, and the all-around inductive/constructivist approach to learning. I am a firm believer in the idea that all people have the same innate capacity to learn, but that this is manifested in different ways.
