As a Michigan resident, I was unable to find sny substantial work in the fiels of Social Work once I earned my BA degree. So, I worked in 3-4 school districts over a two year period before gaining full time work with the State. Eventually, in 2006 I lost my position with the state and again returned to substitute teaching. I enjoy young poeple and giving them a strong dose of encouragement even in brief one-day encounters. My knowledge of social science and behaviors has enabled me to realize a high rate of satisfaction and sucess with each student that I face. Even students who are named as trouble makers exhibit self confidence and control when a mutual trust and respect are established. Teaching to me is one of the greatest pleasures I have. Helping children learn and making learning fun is something I strive for. I understand that all children are different and teaching styles need to be just as different. I like to find different ways for children to like and understand a problem that was once difficult. I listen and like the children to explain to me their difficulties and come up with a solution together to make learning fun.

I am a life-long learner with degrees in Zoology & Philosophy, and I was the Valedictorian of my high school. I have 17 years of experience in the IT industry, mostly as a Technical Writer. I have taught in public school (Science for 6th-12th grades), I have tutored in the subjects of reading, writing, math, and science, and I have taught as a substitute in various subjects. I also have a great deal of volunteer experience with children: mentoring an 8-year-old boy for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, working with disabled children in a therapeutic horseback riding program, teaching horseback riding lessons to kids, volunteering for a children's shelter, and teaching an after-school program to 3rd-6th graders about pet-related subjects.
