More About This Tutor...

I have been a Special Education teacher for 24 years. During that time, I was an Assistant Teacher, with several elementary schools in Mississippi. I was chosen as one of Mississippi's most outstanding teachers, in 1995. That same year, I was chosen, out of all teachers in the United States, to study at George Washington's home in Virginia.
I believe all students can learn. Every student has different learning styles and I believe if a teacher can make learning fun, students will remember what that teacher has tried to teach.

Competent, energetic, young tutor available.

I'm a junior at Mississippi College with a 3.60 GPA. I major in political science and minor in communications. i have interned at law offices and voluntarily taught civics to elementary students. I am the brother, nephew, and husband of teachers: all of my relatives have given me ample opportunity to be involved in traditional class rooms.
Perfect practice makes perfect. I like to have the student look, listen, then do and teach me; because when you can teach the subject you have truly mastered it.

My comments on tutoring Social Studies : Thirty-three years of teaching social studies at secondary level. Mississippi teacher certification in Social Studies. Bachelor's in History

Prefer to meet one-on-one or small group instruction in a neutral location, such as a library or eatery. I am very flexible to adapt to change to the needs of the student.
I have retred after 33 years of teaching. 32 years of primarily teaching history or social studies subjects. I also have 15 years of teaching in schools for the deaf, there is some overlap of deaf education and social studies education. I am National Board Certified as a teacher. I am a fluent ASL and Sign Language user.

I first introduce myself and get to know a little about the student I am tutoring. Then, I establish a baseline of what they have learned so that I can direct my attention to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I get into the material with the student and show them how and why the material is important and applicable in the world in which we live.
I have served as a substitute teacher in Hayward, CA for 1 1/2 years. I worked as a tutor for Learning & Loving It in San Jose, CA for 3 years. My teaching style is to merge technology, current events, and thought provoking question into one. I related the given subject to the student as best as I can. This makes the subject personal and it makes the information easy to retain.
During my education at Alcorn, I have helped a myriad of my colleagues with papers, historical facts, and a general/detail understanding of a given historical topic. I would routinely do this three to four times a week. This opportunity helped to expand my knowledge and expound the students.

Given the awesome responsibility of teaching Sunday School at my church, I believe wholeheartedly that providing understanding and setting the right examples is paramount to success for our children. As a child, my Sunday School teacher taught my brother and I the importance of respect for others and good moral values. After ten years of teaching, his lessons have not aparted from me. Therefore, his philosophy will forever guide me in all aspects of teaching.

I have a love for education. This is my gift by teaching others what I have been taught throughout my educational life as well as professional life. I am easy going, patient and considerate of others. I don't beleieve in the verbage "slow learners", we all can learn if taught appropriately. Teaching is one of the most rewarding profession in my opinion.
I graduated cum laude from Jackson State University. I am currently pursuing a master's degree in mass comm/english literature. I have developed extensive grammatical and writing skills by doing research papers for myself as well as assisting fellow peers and other students who had a need for a writer. Much of my institutional voyage was spent in the leviathan web of mathematics. I instinctively operated under such a language as the diffusive properties came fairly easy, resulting in a BS in Mathematics with a Business and French minor at Mississippi College. My short venture in civil engineering school at Mississippi State University provided me with knowledge in physics and chemistry as well. Although primarily science driven, I continued to delve in all worlds of education. I love literature, art, language, and history as well. This holistic approach equipped me with a broad mind. Studying abroad in London, England and Tours, France certainly impacted me and gave me unique perspectives.
Throughout my educational experience, I beheld extraordinary wonders in each mentor I encountered. These professors evinced tremendous skill and articulation that provided me with exempl ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Mississippi State University, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I had the opportunity to intern in the West Point Public School District where I taught fourth grade and kindergarten. I learned valuable information while teaching that will help me throughout my teaching career such as how to plan and lead effective lessons, how to differentiate instruction, and collaboration to create an creative learning environment.
I believe that each child should be treated as a unique individual and should be taught in the same way. The atmosphere of the classroom should be one that supports the emotional, mental, social, and physical being of a child. Children should be educated in their least restrictive environment where proper guidance is given. I will make sure your child is exceeding beyond his or her expectations to become successful.

A Little Bit About Me...

I grew up in Spain as my parents were career missionaries. From the time I was young, I have enjoyed teaching and have done it whenever I could. In 13, I taught my younger brother to read. All during high school, I tutored students. When I went to college, my part-time job was to be the assistant to the Spanish professor and to teach in the language lab. I taught for many years in schools overseas, in Nicaragua and Spain. In the U.S. I taught Spanish for 2 years in Piney Woods and 3 years at Clinton High School.
It is my belief that all have the right to receive a thorough and complete education. Children who enter the system at kindergarten should be surrounded by an environment where they can achieve their maximum potential. Their curiosity should be stimulated at a young age, and that along with an organized and developed program, will aid these students in ... read more
