My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

My comments on tutoring Math : I can help with any high school or undergraduate college Math course.

Lead the student to find the right answer himself or herself if possible.
I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. Other previous experience includes 34 years experience as a communication system engineer. This experience includes satellite communications and other communications for the US military, NASA, FAA, and c ... read more

I hope to tutor teenagers that i can teach and learn from

I can be strict but I do show empathy and try to put myself in other's situation. I don't judge I believe every child learns in thier own way but with time and patience it can be done. I do push sometimes to see results but in the end the happy ending is worth it. I guarentee to show them a few strategies that are unique and will stick to them forever. I do require parents to cooperate when possible. thank you
I am currently enrolled in Desoto High School in arcadia florida. I love math and still have time for my CNA training. I am a senior this year. I am here to make sure you succeed!

I am a first year student at Stetson University. I skipped fifth grade, which is the reason I graduated early. I completed all four years of high school with A's, and only about 2-3 B's. My professional subject area is Mathematics. I took Advanced Placement Calculus 1 in my senior year, receiving a "Most Outstanding" award. I also have experience in areas such as Reading, Writing, English, and also projects. My freshman and sophomore year, I won first place in my school science fair, and my sophomore year also won in the district science fair. My high school had an AVID(Advance Via Individual Determination) program in which I helped as a tutor during school hours and also after school. If one needs help with science fair projects, research projects, presentations, etc, I am available. I have learned a lot of techniques in those areas in order for the result to be exceptional and eye catc ... read more

Let's get you an A!

I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the subject area that can be applied without the tutor present.

I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.
I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.

I believe all children are capable of learning. We need to adjust to help everyone learn. Student- centered learning and constructivism are key components in student learning. Once again, my personal belief of education is "You only get out what you put in".

A Little Bit About Me...

English has always been my best subject. It was natural for me to major in English Education when I decided to go back to college. I believe that when I teach English, I make it fun but most importantly, understandable. I love reading and reviewing the different genres that this subject covers, especially short stories and novels. I have taken several workshops to help improve my ablility to teach writing and to help students prepare for the FCAT Writing Exam. However, my love is grammar. I understand it, and I love to teach it, whether it bores my students or not! I have not tutored professionally, but I do have 3 children (the oldest is 14). Every night I help them with their homework. I help my oldest child especially with any English related homework she may have. She knows that she can come to me, and I will be there to assist her.
I believe that children can learn i ... read more

I like to teach with a hands on learning method. I believe both children and adults learn better when they can see it, hear it and feel it whenever possible. I think everyone is capable of achieving academic success if shown the best way they can learn and how to use their skills in every day life. Educators do make all the difference in the world. Learning is something we all do every day. I love to read and believe reading is a great way to learn. While expanding your vocabulary you can travel to foreign countries, see an experience from someone else's viewpoint or let your imagination soar. My goal is to foster the love of learning to everyone I come in contact with in some way.

More About This Tutor...

Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees required a high level of excellence in writing papers.  I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and essays on various topics.  In addition, I have tutored several youth and children in math, history, and English. Many of these youth came from Korea and had to overcome language barriers in their studies.  This made my job as a tutor more difficult, but more rewarding as I was able to see them progress in the English language and their studies.  I work with youth on a weekly basis and strive to teach in creative and interesting ways.
I love teaching and working with youth and children.  I am patient with students and teach in a way that empowers the student to find the answers for himself/herself.  I love when my students have "aha" moments and really begin to understand the topic of study.  I believe educa ... read more

I've worked as an environmental scientist for the past 15 years. I have a B.S. Biology/Limnology and completed General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry. I have many years of experience related to preparing scientific reports. I enjoy tutoring.
I enjoy sharing what I know and have learned with others. I have a 7 year old son and believe patience is a valuable characteristic of mine. I'm also very easing going and get along well with most people. When tutoring, I first attempt to help someone understand a subject especially chemistry as structured in the text book but whenever possible, if the situation requires, I will try to simplify the subject in any way possible until the student makes it over the hump and then the text version usually becomes more clear.
