Brain Builder-Building the Brain without the Pain

I have learned through my experiences of teaching individuals with disabilities that a great teacher needs to be flexible in their teaching styles. I am very self-reflective and am constantly looking for ways to help students overcome difficulties with learning. I have a very energetic teaching style and am enthusiastic about learning different subjects as well.
I have been in the teaching field for close to 10 years. My experience has consisted of teaching Special Education and Adults with Disabilities. I also have had experience teaching Elementary and Middle School students in Reading and Math. I have a Masters degree in English Education from the University of South Florida. I am also a Florida Certified teacher in English 6-12 with Reading and ESOL Endorsements and ESE K-12.

Put the student at ease since stress does not equate.

Bachelor in Electrical Engineering - Cambridge University, England. MSEE - McGill University, Montreal, Canada. I have tutored students for the past 35 years from Grades 5 to 8 in math subjects. I have found that Algebra is a subject that most students have difficulty with and I have specialized in Algebra. I ONLY tutor in math, unlike others that tutor in any subject. I CAN help you. Don't be put off by my low rate. I am retired and enjoy tutoring.
Most student difficulties come from a lack in understanding the basics in math. I try to find a starting point to build from there. Because of Covid-19 I now tutor ONLY on-line. I use FaceTime and along with a whiteboard, I create a classroom environment to provide the student total participation. And they all love it.

A Little Bit About Me...

My name is Barbara M. I was born in Hamburg, Germany and raised in Japan. I have been tutoring for the past six years in Cape Coral, Florida. I grew up in Japan and came to the USA after I met my husband. Having a Japanese mother and German father meant I was surrounded by both languages, becoming fluent in both. I earned my IB in German in high school and took the O-level exam at Oxford University in London. I passed the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test at level N2 and am studying for the N1. Tutoring is my passion. Learning languages can be challenging, but I try to adjust my lesson plan according to my student’s need. Through my years of tutoring I had students telling me how they were so excited that they were able to use what they learned from me. I do set goals for students and try to lead them with positive encouragement. Each student has their own pace of learning Japanese o ... read more

Computer and other skills available, what I know I share.

Took three years of college courses on Psychology at Ashford University, trained with a Computer Troubleshooting Specialist for four years, have two books of my own written word poetry published. In my time at Ashford I picked plenty of shareable skills, study skills, time management, and using my keyboard to it's fullest potential to meet deadlines. While training with the Computer Troubleshooter, I learned more about how to use software and typing/keyboard shortcuts to utilize computers to their full potential. I also learned how to use properly install hardware and to build a desktop, and where to find reasonably priced keyboard components.
I go with the styles that fit the student. I generally use the first couple of visits to assess what works best for the student and then work with the student in a calm and patient yet firm manner. I do not try to force results, every student ... read more

I am a recent Bachelor of Science in Child Studies graduate of FGCU and hold a current FCCPC. I am considered a non-traditional graduate (which in my case means older), and I bring with me a range of personal and professional experiences that have developed and enhanced my capacity for learning, teaching, and adaptability. My primary interest in learning is focused on the social-emotional and cognitive influences that create the optimal conditions for brain function during the learning process. Providing both the necessary supportive social-emotional environment through positive guidance as well as the cognitive stimulation that physical, sensory, and creative and artistic activities produce are fundamental to implementing a brain-based learning approach, and I am trained to integrate hands-on activities across the curriculum and learning domains that relate to real world experiences. ... read more

Education is essential for the mind to grow.

I have helped people with their English-speaking skills off and on and am very skilled in spelling and grammar. I've been learning Japanese for going on three years, as well. I'm aware that it's not a particularly high in-demand language to learn, but I am more than willing to aid in learning it if it is desired. Also, having graduated high school, I have enough knowledge to teach kids about the basics of science, math, and English.
On the whole, I look for a rather creative approach when it comes to learning and studying. I ask that students be skeptical in all they hear and read, so asking questions as a form of studying will be essential. Just reading a book or looking at flash cards for studying purposes can prove to be tedious and ineffective. And putting what's learned in context is always necessary if the subject calls for any everyday application.

Every Student Can Succeed!

Hello, I have a bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida. I have taught in three schools around the county, differing in academic and socio-economic levels. I have personally taught grades K-4, but am certified to teach up to grade 6. I also have experience in SES and ESOL classes. I am also a mother of two, so I have a perspective of the student, teacher, and parent!
I have a very student-centered approach, and beleive that learning should be fun. Hands-on is so important especially when students are struggling in any subject. Every student can succeed, they just don't all succeed the same way!
