My comments on tutoring Algebra : Skilled at explaining exponents, graphing, number line, square roots.

Teaching middle school and high school science from 1983 to 2004, including every science subject listed in the TutorSelect list. I have worked as an educational consultant for national science laboratories, helping them train their scientists to work better in the school classrooms where they volunteer. I have worked for museums and for outdoor education programs, but have found the most satisfaction as a classroom teacher with all kinds of students. I have worked teaching teachers, but they were very difficult students.
Multiple ways of presenting material; musically, visually, building models, finding answers by testing a hypothesis; experimenting, measuring, observing, seeing, touching.

As a graduate from New Mexico Tech, I believe my education to be advanced and very useful. NMT has very high expectations for its students, and demands an obscene amount of drive and focus. The math department in particular, is very challenging; therefore, I feel that my hard work and achievements present much to offer any student. All of my prior tutoring experience has been volunteer work for family members and friends in various fields; mostly mathematics, but also some chemistry, GMAT preparation, and elementary grammar. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching young adults, watching "the light bulb go off" as they come to understand concepts that had been eluding them. Math is a subject that centers around understanding and applying a surprisingly modest number of concepts. As such, I focus on the concepts and their relationships, preferring to look at the concepts through varying problems from various domains, rather than through repetitive drill.
