I have no set style of teaching. I try to understand how to benefit the individual by examining their needs. Then, we go from there. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : Although the bulk of my career has involved writing as a journalist, I have -- from time to time -- ventured into fiction and feel perfectly comfortable tutoring in that subject area as well.

I am foremost a writer whose 38-year, award-winning career is rooted in journalism. However, I also have an extensive teaching background. Ex-classroom school teacher with 10 years plus experience!

My teaching style is one that always tries to relate to the child and to have fun. Does the child enjoy video games, dinosaurs, soccer, dance, or a particular cartoon character? When I discover what it is the child enjoys, I bring that element into the subject we are learning about. If the child likes soccer and struggles in reading, I research about famous soccer players and find books on them. Perhaps, at the end of a teaching session, we go outside and kick the soccer ball for 5 minutes as a source of inspiration to get work completed. Bringing in other ways of learning through play and games is also something I enjoy. Playing simple math games or reading games is a easy way to teach a child, without them realizing they are learning.
