I feel very comfortable dealing with the technical side of the English language--that is, the grammatical side. I am also quite comfortable discussing theme, characters, and various plot devices in novels. During high school, I excelled in the Advanced Placement English programs, and in my time at Penn State University, I have taken a number of honors courses to further my education, focusing my studies on writing; additionally, I have completed an editorial internship, writing and editing numerous articles for both magazines and newspapers in the State College area. I believe in a constructivist approach to education. Stusents come with prior knowledge of topics. My goal is to get those students to connect prior knowledge with new information. I also believe that there are mltiple ways that students learn. They can have multiple intelligences in several areas, such as artistic, kinesthetic, or visual and spatial. I have experience teaching many types of students. I worked one-on-one, daily, with an autistic student during my last position, so I understand that not every student learns in the same way. I think it works well to give shorter lessons to a small group, and then work individually with the students. I like to encourage them to help one another if they feel confident in the subject. I pay great attention to verifying that each student is following the lesson. My main teaching style is "I do, you do," meaning I show them how to do a problem, or spell a word, and then they show me how. A Little Bit About Me...

I have received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Seton Hill Univeristy and I have experience in the general education classroom and Autistic support classroom. At the present time, I am teaching in a life skills classroom with students who have Autism. This position enables me to provide these students with the skills they will need to transition to independent living and employment. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing, and patient.
