I attended National University and earned a teaching certificate. I worked in a junior college in San Diego as a tutor in math, English, reading, and social studies. I went on to work in the San Diego Unified School district as a teacher's aide and as a substitute teacher. I then accepted a position at the world famous Scripps Research Institute. Since English was not the first language of many of these scientists, it was necessary for me to help edit their papers prior to submission using extensive grammatical skills. As a parent concerned about the condition of the public school system we decided to homeschool our last two children. I began teaching them in the first grade and have continued up to, and including, the present time. My son is now a high school freshman and my daughter is in the eighth grade. During this time I helped start a homeschool cooperative. We wanted to continue homeschooling our children, but we also wanted to provide them with more choices taught by someone experienced, or having an expertise in an area.
