I currently teach at a small K-12 school where I taught business classes. My current course load includes Introduction to Career, Business Management, Business Math, Accounting, and Work-based Learning. I am also the director of the Stratford Alternative Education Program. This program allows me to help students complete courses such as Chemistry, Biology, and Algebra so they may receive a state diploma. Working in a K-12 environment has helped me gain a better understanding of the cognitive development and thought processes. My scholastic work includes a PhD in Mathematics and a MS in Electrical Engineering. I have taught and done research in mathematics for over 30 years and have tutored students at the high school and college level during the same period, as well as mentoring them in research projects. One of the more enjoyable aspects of my career was working with students in one-on-one tutoring situations. This extensive experience has helped me develop my Socratic tutoring method, described below.
My primary goal is to help the student understand the material so that it makes sense. My tutoring style involves asking lots of questions. As a Business Consultant over the past 20 years I have taught computer and business applications to over 50 business employees. I have extensive experience in fund accounting and grant administration. While in college I tutored finite and basic math in a work study program. I have found that I have a unique ability to teach students who have learning disabilities. I have the ability to read how a student learns and change to their abilities.
