A Little Bit About Me...

Hands on. I am a believer in breaking it down so that you can understand. If I have to explain something more than once I'm patient and willing to communicate until you understand
I have worked in the accounting industry since 2006. I have worked for a CPA, Tax Preparer, Accounts Payable, Bookkeeper, accounts receivable, and Night auditor. I also ran restaurants for many years prior to going back to college in 2005. I have been fortunate enough to work for some very well educated people and my degree has helped me in obtaining different assignments.

My comments on tutoring Math : After teaching high school math for 16 years, I started pursuing my doctorate in mathematics education. I taught (and tutor) every math class from 6th grade math through AP Calculus. Any other information you'd like (including testimonials) can be found at gtownmath.com.

After 16 years of high school classroom teaching experience in Missouri, I decided to pursue my doctorate in education at UK. I'm certified in secondary math grades 7-12 in both Missouri and Kentucky and have 4 years of college level teaching as well. I also taught the secondary Practicum for prospective math, science, social studies, and language arts teachers. I earned an educational specialist (ABD) from the University of Kentucky. Now I own a tutoring business and handle the business side of an art gallery for the creative side of my brain to have a little fun!
My high school students have said that I'm completely focused on them, communicate very effectively and add humor whenever possible. You can check my ratings from students at www.ratemyteachers.com -- search for Marquette High School in Chesterfield, Missouri.

I believe all adults and children are different and various teaching styles work for some, while not others. I teach and show by example and like to give people practice while they are learning, while being available for any questions they have
I have worked with children and families within the social work field. I have facilitated training classes for adults as well as went to school with children to help them with their school work. I've tutored them with homework, while working for Seven Counties Consulting Services, as well as privately tutored children. I love to work with children and like seeing them succeed

Math is one of my top subjects!

I am a senior college student at Northern Kentucky University. I have been a Certified Substitute and Classified teacher's aide at Owen County Schools for 2 years. Also, I have obtained a college "area of concentration" in educational studies at NKU, with a major in Organizational Leadership which will be completed in May 2012.
Teaching style consists of a more visual approach to ensure students can see the process of how problems/questions can be answered rather than just trying to explain. Multiple strategies can be used, especially in the Elementary Math field.
