A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. I am extremely patient and am very willing to take alternative approaches in helping a student learn.
During my undergraduate career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in the fields of math and science. I am a doer who has shared his knowledge and experience in a variety of ways. When I worked as a photographer and filmmaker, I taught those subjects at many different institutions, from an after-school program for elementary school kids to NYU Graduate School. For many years now, I have worked as a science writer and editor. I am a recent graduate of UMass, Amherst, and have received a Masters Degree in Secondary Education. In the past year I have completed my teaching prepracticum and practicum at Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield, Ma. During this experience I have had the opportunity to teach the subjects of Algebra I and Precalculus. Early on in my career I spent 1 1/2 years as a substitute teacher in the areas of math and science, including several months as a long-term substitute in chemistry. For the last 20+ years I have been employed as a chemist/scientist/supervisor in both government and corporate settings.
