Each individual is different. Therefore, you have to know the person first in order to apply a teaching style. Age, gender, and subject matter are some elements that influence how a person learns. Some people learn visually, some people learn by practicing, some people don't want to learn. My style varies according to the individual and what he or she likes or dislikes. As a tutor my role can be from formal authority, demonstrator, facilitator and delegator. Key elements in the classroom: 1) facilitate interaction and 2) delivery of the content to student. This program worked with several schools in the Rochester, NY area to provide in school and after school tutoring and teaching assistance to children grades 6-12. I specialized at one school, Hope Hall in Gates, NY, where I worked with students who had a variety of learning challenges. I assisted students with subjects such as: English, Spanish, French, math, language arts, science and social studies. I have worked in the Accounting/Financial Services field in various roles, beginning in high school. I have worked for local government, financial institutions, and large corporations. In addition, I have earned a BS in Accounting. At the present, I am preparing for the CPA exam.
I believe that every student has the capacity to reach their goals. Each student works and learns at a different pace. Therefore, students should feel that it is okay to ask for additional help to understand a topic. My goal is to be a cheerleader and coach to my students.
