A Little Bit About Me...

I have formally taught and tutors for 12 years. I believe I have been most successful because of the rapport I build with students. I hold high expectations and believe in them! Below is a summary of my experience: -special educator in a public school setting for 12 years. -taught 9th grade for two years, 3-5th grade for seven years and 6th grade for four years. -I have taught students with a wide range of abilities in the mainstream setting and in separate settings. My comments on tutoring Elementary Grammar : Grammar exercises are completed during small intervention groups. Kids need to know when to use capitalization and end of sentence punctuation. I find that authentic writing works best with grammar. It always makes a lasting impression if the students can discover the mistakes while writing. This way they transfer what they are learning into everyday life.

I have tutored many students in math, and a few students in English in the past. I am always able to adapt to how the student learns, and help them understand the material. I have worked with students from the age of 7 to the age of 15, from elementary English to Algebra 2, I have made it so the student can understand the concepts they are learning in school.
Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner.
