College graduate seeking to help students

I am a college graduate from Arizona State University. I currently work for an Orthopedic surgeon full time and am applying to Physician's Assistant school next April. I have mentored my 5 younger siblings as well as tutored them in their studies. I am also a mentor to people with special needs and have a special place in my heart for them. I was involved in best buddies in high school and fell in love with the children. I would enjoy tutoring students who plan on improving in their studies.
I am very approachable and patient. Growing up as the oldest sibling, i have had 23 years of experience with children.

It is NEVER too late to learn, nor right to learn only 1 way

I summarized my basic experience in the Policy Statement. To expand on that, I have over 20 apps on an android tablet that are for clients who need early intervention in the areas of educational subjects, speech/breathing techniques, social and emotional recognition and assistive communication. I have a child safety filter infiltrated into the device so that the clients receive only what is appropriate to their learning. They cannot access the settings on the device, nor the regular web. I honor parents' input on what they think is appropriate for their child.
I utilize kinesthetic learning and encourage parental involvement within the tutoring sessions.

A Little Bit About Me...

A teacher's ability to see where a student is and get them to where they need to be is the key to success. There are many ways to teach but the importance is to find what special ingredient will help the student excel. As an educator I promote technology, high level thinking, creating and discovery implementing these concepts to check for mastery in the academic areas. Academics is the door that leads into every opportunity our youth have to live a happy, productive and fulfilling life.
As an Arizona State University graduate 2001, I graduate with a strong passion to help make a difference in the lives of today's youth through academic excellence. I have been a special education teacher for 6 years and have worked with all grade levels and learning styles. My teaching career began in the Mesa Public Unified school district where I gained experience in an inclusion and in a privat ... read more

I have a MS in Varying Exceptionalities. I also have 18 hrs of ESL. Currently, I am working on 18 hrs of English. I have taught pre-school through adults. I have taught many different kinds of students. I have taught international students, ESL students, and native speakers of English. I have worked in pre-schools, public schools, private schools, language schools, and colleges. I have tutored many different kinds of students from foster children to adults.
Since I have a degree in special education and ESL, I have used many different methods of teaching. As a teacher I see myself as a facilitator. I want my students to be in charge of their learning, not me. I often ask a student “leading questions” instead of just giving them the answer. I also consider the audience when I am teaching. I ask myself...Are they familiar with our customs or not? Do they know our idioms or not?

My experience consists of tutoring college students in the subject areas I learned for a Bachelors degree in Health Science. This consists of: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, Anatomy, and Biology. I also have experience teaching children soccer. I played collegiate soccer and I was involved in many soccer camps teaching children the basic skills of soccer as well as communication and self-esteem. I now have been accepted to teach adults at the Church I go to. This is on Thursdays and my title is volunteer teacher.
The teaching style I have is really a mix of all styles. I was exposed to teaching classes as an undergraduate student. One class really taught me the importance of building a teaching style with all of the learning styles involved. Whether it is visual, kinesthetic, audio, or reading, a good teacher will take the time to incorporate all ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love children and believe that every child can learn. In my classroom, I provided a multitude of diverse learning experiences for my students - from experimentation to cooperative learning. I support the multiple intelligences theory and always attempted to accommodate students' various learning needs. For example, when finishing a novel, students were given options for completing a book project: traditional book report, building a model of a favorite scene and presenting it to the class, creating a scrapbook for a main character and presenting it, etc. I held high standards for my students but always provided the tools for them to achieve those standards.
After earning my bachelor's degree in History and Political Science, I went on to complete the teacher's certification program through the University of Phoenix. I began teaching middle school Language Arts, Reading, Writi ... read more

Most of my professional career has involved working with Special Needs individuals: 3 years directing, teaching and training in a community skill center, and a thriftstore; 14 years as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor helping teenagers and adults obtain job training and/or schooling and job placement on a case by case basis; and then, the last 4 years as a special education teacher; the first year was as an elementary school substitute, and the last 3 was teaching Junior High English (written language) and Reading. I tutored my students after school and between classes on a regular basis and excelled in working one on one.
I believe in starting each session with an example or review which allows the student to connect the task at hand with their prior homework/knowledge/experiences/interests, etc. To do this it is imperative to conduct an interest and needs assessment (mostly in ... read more

My teaching style is dependent on the student. With some students I find that they just need initial guidance from me before I let them be independent with their assignments. With other students I have found that they need me to hold their hand, so to speak, during the whole process. When that is the case I make sure that the student does not feel inadequate by having me walk them through each assignment. Since I am a graduate student I also implement various ways I learn with the students I teach. I will use auditory and visual modalities of teaching in order to help them develop various senses while they learn.
Currently I am in two graduate programs in the medical field, naturopathic medicine and acupuncture. I feel very confident in my math and sciences. I have had past experience tutoring students at a local Learning Centering in Scottsdale where I worked with children fr ... read more

My experience with Special Education has taught me that all children can learn and be successful in academic activities. Some children need explicit instruction and other children need to create their own meaning from academic information. I believe that children need to be invested and interested in the academic material in order to learn. I enjoy working with children and helping them become successful. All children can and want to learn, some simply need more individual attention than others.

Besides family, faith, and good health, there is nothing I value more than my education. As a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, I have earned a bachelor degree in Science-Business. This new field incorporates the work of a Biology major with the fundamental requirements of a Business major. I am now in the process of applying to dental school, thus have extensive experience with essays and standardized tests. Throughout my academic career I have meticulously planned, prepared, and executed a plan for success.
As a life long athlete, I understand the importance of a team. Parents, tutors, and children must work together to succeed. I also realize the importance of strategy; each team has a different method to achieve their goal. Be it verbal, visual, audial, physical, there are multitudes of different ways to have success inside and outside of the classroom. My personal succ ... read more

My style of teaching depends upon the child's way of learning. In my role as a Montessori teacher I typically presented lessons to the child in way that would best suite their approach to learning. For example, if that particular child was a more hands on type learner I would make materials or present the lesson in a manner to include something that he or she could manipulate. My goal in education is to provide the best type of learning to match your child's way of learning. I attempt to do the best that I can for any child that I work with. I do believe that all children really want to learn especially in the right circumstances.
When I graduated from High School and went into the job market I continued to be interested in working with children. This interest lead me to taking psychology and education classes from various colleges over the years and ultimately obtaining a B.I.S de ... read more

I began my teaching career as a Certified Cognitive Skills Trainer, educating children ages 6 to 17 years. For a year and a half, I helped those students improve upon their reading, comprehension, math, attention, reasoning and logic, and visualization skills. Often times, I saw my students achieve 5+ year gains. Since then, I have been working as a preschool teacher for children ages 3 and 4 years, covering introductions to math, science, reading, and other subject areas. Both my bachelor and masters degrees specialize in child development, and I am particularly skilled with young children.
I am a firm believer that learning should be fun! Research shows that children learn best through exploration and play, so I strive to create this climate during all of my teaching endeavors. In addition, I spend time getting to know my students and forging relationships with them; this helps m ... read more
