My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : Taught creative writing and have published some of my own poetry and short stories. Currently working to put creative works online.

I believe in creating routines to add structure to the learning environment as most of my students progress better in a very structure classroom. I have been noted in my evaluations as making solid connections with most of my students by taking a personal interest in their academic progress. While I do not believe in extrinsic rewards, I will use them to motivate students when necessary. I am organized and pride myself in being able to stick to the lesson plans I have devised.

Optimistic communicator sharing a love of reading & writing

I worked as a tutor while doing respite work for United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County in California. I am proud to say that the young man I worked with the longest is now finishing his BA in justice studies at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I also tutored as a substitute aid for the Ocean View School District in Orange County, California. After earning my BA in journalism from CSUF I have published in a number of print and online media outlets, and I am currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing.
Communication is key, so I will look for the specific interests that a particular student has and connect with where their strengths reside. From there we can build on these high points and draw them into other areas where their abilities need improvement.

I value personal discovery: the journey is as important as the destination. In a teaching or tutoring session, I ask as many questions as I answer. Unlike Socrates, I do not ask questions to lead students to a particular answer. Instead, I ask questions to lead my students to answers I don't always know--until we get there, together.
