My comments on tutoring Homework Help : Strong proficiency in math subjects, but willing to assist in other subjects.

I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance.
While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then.

B.S. Elementary ed with math minor. Certified in PA. (moved and did not renew) After raising two sons, I entered the business world using my math and negotiation skills in the finance/AR-credit division. I recently relocated to Texas and began to substitute elementary grades 1-6. Passionate Elementary Education Tutor

I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps.
