I make sure to model what a student needs and I try to give multiple approaches to the same problem to help facilitate learning styles.
I have taught at Mesquite High School in the marching band program for three years. During that time I have worked one on one with students in music, and also helped the students with other classes and college planning. For my computer skills, I have worked in an office for almost 3 years where I have generated reports using word, excel, and powerpoint. I have helped co-workers with all of their computer needs.

My comments on tutoring Homework Help : Strong proficiency in math subjects, but willing to assist in other subjects.

I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance.
While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then.

I have tutored friends and family for 4 years. I have also tutored others while in school and after school for 3 years. While tutoring, I try to find a way to help the student learn by finding a style that fits their personality; therefore, I do not have a preferred teaching style. I've tutored kids ages 6-14 and enjoy doing it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm only 17 years old but I have tons of tutoring experience since I was 13. All of my friends would come to me to get tutored and to study for test. And teachers would always select me to help kids who were struggling. I would help with any subject but math would be my strong side. I would and still do make straight 100's in math and love tutoring people in math. I've always thought about being a math teacher myself.

I truly care for children and helping them learn.

B.S. Elementary ed with math minor. Certified in PA. (moved and did not renew) After raising two sons, I entered the business world using my math and negotiation skills in the finance/AR-credit division. I recently relocated to Texas and began to substitute elementary grades 1-6. The past six months were dedicated as a compliance sub tutoring 5th grade students in math, reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and test preperation.
I believe that a teacher who is dedicated and loves to teach will give rise to students who love to learn. The experience should be enjoyed by everyone and be exciting when something new has been learned. I like using different approaches. For example - using subject related games to make learning fun and interesting. Discipline and dedication to accomplish set goals for each subject are an integral part of this process.

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I will remember."

I've been a member of academic decathlon in high school and was involved in after school tutoring sessions students in need.

More About This Tutor...

I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps. With this theory, I try to use my experience in the work field to relate the subject matter to the student’s surroundings – hence math and science are my forte. I work well with children by making learning fun, but also have the knowledge of complex problems to provide the same environment for high school and college students.
