A Little Bit About Me...

As a Language Arts teacher, I am well versed in many conceptual approaches to learning and mastering reading and writing. I have accompanied my teaching experience with a Master's Degree in English and Writing, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in communication. My teaching career began in New York City, but I am proud to have called Portland my home for the past three years, where I have been teaching English at a middle school in Beaverton.
Teaching comes as natural to me as parenting, the key is to set high but achievable goals, as well as firm expectations and boundaries. I have been regarded as a favorite teacher these past three years, and many former students come to visit me on their own time every week. My love of reading and writing has led me to excel in 2 languages. An English major at Carleton College, I mastered the art of putting thoughts on paper to persuade, compare, or explicate; as well as how to read for meaning. Later at the Sorbonne in Paris, I transferred these talents to French. I have since taught and tutored reading, writing, and speaking in both languages in the U.S. and abroad.
My teaching style is active and enthusiastic. I show students clues and shortcuts in all sorts of subjects so that learning can be fun and even easy. I am tolerant and patient, while at the same time I request diligence and assiduousness. I revel in the success of my students, thanks to their efforts and hard work. I love to see students finally understand something they find challenging.
