Collaborative & Fun Teacher

I worked in the financial sector for 10 years and have a Master's Degree in Economics and Finance. Since then I have focused my efforts into freelance teaching, and have worked with students in a variety of subjects: chess, math, finance, language arts, history, piano, and writing, among others. Other subjects I’ve studied informally: literature, language, history, politics & government.
I believe that each student has a unique learning style of that must be discovered in real-time. Therefore I tailor the lessons towards an open, organic, collaborative process. I focus on small incremental steps designed to build momentum and flow states, which is the best way to start anything. The goal of any lesson is to bring the student to a place where they can learn on their own. The purpose of learning is fun!

As you can see, I have had very little tutoring experience, but my desire and passion has always been to share my knowledge and skills with those who need assistance in the area of accounting. I have done much volunteer work in my field of accounting and business administration via not much with tutoring. One thing that I have learned as a math tutor is that not every student learns the same way. I try to analyze not only how they perceive math, but I also look at some of their previous work to deduce what mistakes they are making and (more importantly) if they are making the same mistakes over and over. I also try to boost their confidence, as most people that struggle with math experience either frustration or fear. My goal is not to help the student with their homework; it's to help them understand the concepts being taught in class as well as building their level of confidence.
