A Little Bit About Me...

I started teaching while in college; I worked as a Teaching Assistant when school was in session (teaching college students) and as a camp counselor at a French immersion camp in the summers. This allowed me to work with students ages 8-22 and to develop different teaching styles for different ages. I am currently writing my PhD thesis; although the subject is Francophone, I'm writing in English and feel that I have strong writing skills and the ability to teach them. I've taught English to non-native speakers in France as an "English assistant" as well as in the US as an ESL tutor. As a teacher’s assistant for photography in high school, I realized that I had a natural aptitude for teaching and breaking subjects down into manageable parts. In college, I was the person that other students came to for guidance with difficult topics, from mathematical equations to evolutionary theory. Since I earned my BS in wildlife biology, I have taught in many capacities, including as a substitute teacher and as a trainer for new employees. I have taught discouraged children to read and fostered latent talents. As a tutor for the Interfaith Refugee Ministry, I worked with children and adults from all over the world, including a woman from Zimbabwe who was studying to earn her GED, but struggled just to create a complete sentence in English. One of my greatest strengths as a teacher is my ability to discern whether or not a student has understood a concept. I recognize that students learn through different methods and I know how to present complex information in a variety of ways so that a student grasps the topic. I believe in having students demonstrate learning by performing activities and exercises that reinforce presented material. I'm a 27 year old that accepted a part-time internship in Fort Collins, Colorado. Also, I'm in the process of applying for PHD programs (starting in 2011) in hopes of becoming a professor in the long-run. A Little Bit About Me...

As the graduate of a difficult field of science, I spent a great deal of time studying and developing better methods for studying. I have become very knowledgeable in science and applied science through my degree field. I have also spent much time reading and writing scientific articles, which has made me proficient in English, general literacy, and writing. Throughout my college career, I have been tutoring and leading study sessions in science.
I think that learning is subjective. Every person will have the opportunity to learn if they have an instructor that can meet their needs. I work well with children, young adults, and adults. I am patient and attentive. I believe that asking questions is the best way to find and address gaps in understanding and facilitate teaching the appropriate material.
