A Little Bit About Me...

The most important thing about my teaching style is that I believe every child can achieve academic excellence and can be interested in learning. I believe that it is up to me, as a teacher or a tutor, to engage the student(s). A huge part of this is being very transparent about where the student starts, what our goals are for where they are going, and how they are doing along the way. I love working with students to figure out what gets them excited and how they learn best so I can incorporate these strategies into my teaching. I know that by getting students interested and excited about their education, I am helping create lifelong learners who are on a great path in school and in life!

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching as an emergency substitute 3rd grade teacher. After 2 years, my husband's career took us to NY, OK, and PA where I continued to teach Religious Ed and substitute in parish schools. I worked as a legal assistant (financial, transactional) for 13 years prior to law school and after obtaining my JD - Cum Laude, I completed my BSLS requirements. I have taught Civil Procedure I and English as a Second Language at the local community colleges (legal assistant program and adult education program). As in-house counsel (finance and operations) for 10 yrs and as Bus Dev Mgr for 3 yrs., I continued to demonstrate excellent writing skills, a dedication to excellence, and superior skills as a communicator and negotiator.

Creative, innovative, and interesting lessons are my forte. I am experienced in providing a constructivist-based approach to knowledge acquisition. Hands-on lesson promote student involvement and increase the development of student responsibility towards their education. I have found that a cross-curriculum approach to the material being presented fosters true understanding and relevance.
I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. This interest comes from having an instructor who them selves is a learner. I hold a M.A. in medical anthropology as well as a B.A. in cultural anthropology. Throughout graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant and upon graduation I taught biological and cultural anthropology courses for the University of Memphis's department of anthropology. The focus area of my graduate studies was child health; this resulted in working on numerous projects with elementary and middle school aged students. In the past I have volunteered with adult literacy programs and I feel equally comfortable teaching teens as well as children.
