A Little Bit About Me...

When I teach I want to engage the student or students. I want to grab their interest and keep it. This requires two main things of the teacher: he must know the subject well and he must have enthusiasm for the subject. This almost ensures that the student will enjoy being taught. I like an informal style, especially as classes get smaller.
University of the South, B.A., Major in English Literature, Minor in American History, Minor in Physics University of Mississippi, J.D. (Juris Doctor) Admitted to State Bar of Mississippi and of Texas. Practiced law in Houston, Texas until partial retirement in 2014. While in law practice I made a constant effort to stay connected to people--not just to work at a desk all day. This just makes work more enjoyable for me and I hope that this quality allows any tutored student to enjoy learning as I do. Have taught adult classes in variety ... read more

My comments on tutoring Physics : Bachelor's Degree in math and physics, all A's

My teaching style is based loosely on that of my major college math professer (and head of the department), which was originated at the University of Texas by his thesis advisor and another colleague. It is basically the Socratic method as applied to teaching mathematics, to try to draw the student out and get him or her to think on their own. I am for understanding, not regurgitating a bunch of facts, which anyone can mindlessly do. The object is to be able to think and analyze on your own.

Physics is one of my top subjects!

I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Houston with a BS in physics and a minor in mathematics, so I have great experience in physics and mathematics. I pride myself on my grammar skills from writing lab reports and essays. I have tutored many individuals in the subjects of mathematics and sciences.
I enjoy teaching people of all ages. I understand that some people take longer to comprehend certain subjects, particularly complex subjects like sciences and mathematics. I believe that it is necessary to be patient with people when they don't understand something, even if it takes more time than it usually would. Teaching is one of the most important parts of a person's growth, and I want to be a part of that for someone.
