My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have a dyslexic child, and have helped her quite a bit throughout her academic career

Registered Nurse in Texas for 31 years (class of 1992). I have worked in many various fields including cardiology, dilasys, medical/surgical nursing, ER, rehab, renal, pre and post operative care. I have also been a nursing instructor, where I taught cardiac, orthopedics, endocrine with an emphasis on diabetes, anatomy and physiology, dosage calculation, and general nursing care, including work in the skills lab. I have experience teaching my patients and their families, who normally have very little, if any, knowledge about their conditions that they can effectively manage their health on their own.
Very relaxed and encouraging. I use quite a bit of discussion, and I like to ask students questions that lead them down the path to help them discover the answers they seek. I have found that information is better retained if one can guide the student to the conclusion that they seek ... read more

Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I was diagnosed with dyslexia as a 1st grader. I had multiple tutors to assist me in reading and writing. I believe that people with dyslexia are some of the smartest people in the world. The only thing standing in their way is a system that helps them learn and achieve success. I will help find a way to develop your extremely talented and gifted brain into a system that works. I can also help develop your confidence. I am happy to discuss other resources that could help with learning that are outside my realm and get you those resources in a timely, cost efficient manner. I believe that whatever your goal is, it is achievable. If Richard Branson can rule Virgin with severe dyslexia, you can concur your dream and more.

I am excited to teach others about my passions and help develop a learning system that will work for the student. I have a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. I worked in Cardiac ICU, Oncology, IV team, Labor and Delivery and Women's Health. I left nursing to pursue my love for art which turned into working in medical devices and wearable technology. I have a strong technical design apparel background. I have worked for 4 Fortune 500 companies as a technical designer and product developer in areas of athletic (including Canadian Olympic uniforms), menswear, intimate apparel, childrenswear, juniors, medical braces and prosthetic and now wearable apparel. I have a very strong patternmaking background and teach patternmaking through learning creative geometry. I am a strong seamstress. I have advanced knowledge in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I also have a background in helping others d ... read more

Ex-classroom school teacher with 10 years plus experience!

My teaching style is one that always tries to relate to the child and to have fun. Does the child enjoy video games, dinosaurs, soccer, dance, or a particular cartoon character? When I discover what it is the child enjoys, I bring that element into the subject we are learning about. If the child likes soccer and struggles in reading, I research about famous soccer players and find books on them. Perhaps, at the end of a teaching session, we go outside and kick the soccer ball for 5 minutes as a source of inspiration to get work completed. Bringing in other ways of learning through play and games is also something I enjoy. Playing simple math games or reading games is a easy way to teach a child, without them realizing they are learning.

ELAR Teacher: Getting your child engaged & invested!

Unorthodox is the best way to describe my teaching style. Unorthodox in that I will change my approach or activities based on student comprehension. Unorthodox in that I truly believe that for every student who is confused or doesn’t understand a concept, there is a teacher who didn’t do their job. My greatest strength lies in creating lessons and activities where students will want to engage. Engagement leads to a permanent investment. When a student is engaged by a lesson, they will remember that lesson. To introduce Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” my students played "Who's crazier: Edgar Allan Poe or Mrs. W’s Mom or Dad???” After reading a series of statements such as: “Removed tires from daughter’s car for talking back” “Married his first cousin,” students would guess if it was Poe or my mom/dad. The level of participation in class that day and the days that followed wa ... read more

Learning can be fun and exciting; it's all in our attitude!

I have been in education for 18 years. I started in special education and general education. I taught math, English, reading, science, and history. I also taught the GED and the state test (CA). I tutored all subjects to homebound students. I facilitated reading programs and held workshops for teachers that taught special needs students. I was also a high school counselor for 5 years and have my credential in school psychology
I love working with students and my style is direct teaching; I feel that a student needs to master the concept being taught before moving on to the next level.
