More About This Tutor...

During my experience as a tutor, I have gained the ability to identify the best way to convey the material in a way that matches the individual needs of the learner. Another thing that I have learned as a student and as a math tutor, is that the best and the most efficient way of learning in math is through practice and more practice. My father has helped me a lot while I was in middle and high school in math and physics. He is a professor of physics and one thing that he taught me and I will never forget is that: while solving a problem in math or physics, always write down what you know and what you need to find out. Don't just keep it in your head. Put it down and that will help you find a solution.
As a young girl I grew up loving math and physics. I made sure to participate in every math and physics competitions in order to challenge myself and I was able to win two math compe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I decided early on in my college experience that I wanted to major in mathematics. I worked hard for four years taking a variety of math classes that ended with my senior seminar project that showed how math can be used to project how deadly a disease can be. I earned my BS in Mathematics with a 3.9 GPA in the spring of 2009. I tutored younger college students for about a year in subjects like Calculus 1 and 2, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, and Algebra.
I love teaching other people and I really get a sense of satisfaction when they are able to understand what I have taught them. I tend to teach by using examples as I think it is easier for the student to understand a concept by seeing a visual picture or example. I am a patient teacher who works hard to make sure the student understands the concpet correctly.

A Little Bit About Me...

While attaining a BS in Mathematics at Penn State University, I was heavily involved in peer tutoring. For two semesters I spent 10-20 hours per week working one-on-one with students struggling or seeking a higher level of success in courses ranging from pre-algebra to calculus 2. Though I've never tutored a physics student, I've taken several course and am well enabled to tutor in this area as well. Additionally, I acted as a supplemental instructor for calculus 2. In this role I attended lectures to gauge class progression. I met twice a week with its students to ascertain their personal understanding and tailored my lectures and help sessions accordingly.
I believe the first key to learning is enthusiasm. I like to offer real world applications and display my own enthusiasm to instill a positive attitude towards learning in each child. After that foundation is established, I fee ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from a Pennsylvania Systems of Higher Education college with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. The entire time I was enrolled I was a tutor in the Math Assistant Center as one of the top tutors. I was always told I should be a teacher but for now I am on a quest to get my PhD. I enjoy tutoring anywhere from beginners algebra in middle school all the way to college classes like Ordinary/Partial Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, and some physics.
Every job I've ever had has been one where I teach. I had a job 3 years teaching ballroom dance, 2 years I coached T-ball, and for 4 years I've tutored math. I just recently graduated and I can't see myself not helping someone learn and love math. Math isn't a subject that everyone loves but I believe that can change with the right teacher. I'm not a tutor that gets frustrated and just tells th ... read more

I believe in constructivism. Students learn more when they make their own learning. They need to see the real world application of the material and how it applies to them. I try to create tasks that are hands-on, use authentic materials, and encourage students to collaborate with others and think outside of the box.
I have taught high school in three different countries: Germany, UK and USA. I am passionate about foreign languages and social studies, and I care about my students. It is my intention to broaden their horizons and help them reach their potential as students and as human beings.

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach as if each student was my own child. I treat students the same way I would want my own children treated. Therefore, I teach with the same inspiration. I am convinced that students think math has to be hard, but I approach math with a different attitude. There are definitely some aspects of math that can be troubling, these are the concepts we need to work harder on and with a different frame of mind. I believe all students are capable of learning in their own way. It is the responsibility of the educator to discover each student's strengths and build upon them.
I have been a teacher at Blue Mountain High School for three years. Prior to that I taught at Reading High School for two years.
