A Little Bit About Me...
I work hard at leading students to figure things out for themselves. But if they get too frustrated, I will spell things out more in detail. I draw a lot of pictures, but have learned that not all students find this helpful. So I try to present mathematics several ways: with numbers, with pictures, with symbols. At Trinity I gave the students lots of time in class to work in small groups on problems.
After earning my doctorate in math in 1966, I began teaching at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant professor of math. I was promoted to associate professor in 1972, and continued there until 1977. In 1977 I moved to South Bend to join a Christian community there. I taught part-time at Notre Dame, St. Mary's and IUSB. In 1981 my community started Trinity School, and I taught there from 1981 until I retired in 2007.
