I enjoy teaching high schoolers for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of how honest I can be with them. I enjoy teaching hands-on, real life application of the sciences in a way that students can understand the concept as well as the usefulness to them out in the real world. I'm a recent graduate of the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a minor in Pure Mathematics. I feel comfortable tutoring both high school and college mathematics and physics. I like to get the student engaged and make as much of the session as possible into a quiz for the student: I like to use flashcards and I have no problem spending unpaid time outside of the session producing learning materials for the session. As a high school student, I had a part time job tutoring a younger high school student in mathematics and SAT preparation. This job was 4 nights a week and lasted all during my senior year. As a college student, I would frequently help friends and family with high school chemsitry in a one-on-one formal setting. I also further tutored my brother's friend in SAT preparation. After completing my degrees, I did some tutoring for my future sister-in-law in college level organic chemistry.
My teaching "style" is process-oriented. I first explain the fundamentals or theory, then do an example, then work through an example with the student, and finally allow the student to complete a problem on their own.
