A Little Bit About Me...

I search for the light bulb that hasn't yet gone off in my students. Rote memorization by my students just to get a grade doesn't satisfy me, although that happens with some. I thoroughly enjoy the intellectual challenge of trying to stimulate my students and interest them in the learning process. I probe; I question; I challenge; I confront. If the student doesn't "get it", then my first assumption is that I'm not doing something right, and I need to try again. I may fail, but not for lack of trying or interest!
I have extensive experience in all areas of corporate accounting and financial and cost analysis as a management consultant and line manager. I enjoy helping people, children and adults. I know that everyone can learn with the proper teaching method. My tutoring technique incorporates various learning styles. I use visual aids, such as flash cards and color codes, to help my students understand the concepts. I have been a camp counselor, tutor, coach and teacher. I have taught English in Ghana, preschool in Argentina and special education in the Bronx. I have taught and worked with children of all levels, ages and backgrounds. I am very strong in writing and communication, but have also taught math up to fifth grade. I have taught science and social studies up to fifth grade as well.
I believe all children can learn, but that all children learn differently. Having taught special education, I had a range of grade levels in my class.
