A Little Bit About Me...

I have just completed a Master's Program in the Arts of Teaching at Sacred Heart University. I completed 10 weeks of student teaching where I took on all the responsibilities of a full time 7th grade English teacher. Throughout all of high school and college I worked with children ages 3-15 and taught them how to swim in a Massachusetts accredited program in my hometown. Here, I was responsible for creating lessons and implementing them everyday in a 2-month summer program. In college, I was a Staff Editor and writer for our Newspaper. Here, I ran an entire section and was responsible for working with my wroters and tecahing them how to write an effective Perspectives article. I also had my own article entitled, "Amy Says."
I am an excited, passionate, and creative teacher who focuses on unique ways of displaying information. I like to teach content thoroughly but also with a hi ... read more

College Undergrad Looking to Tutor English Students

Not only was English my favorite subject as well as the one I was most proficient in in high school, it eventually became my major in college. I majored in Journalism at The University of New Hampshire, and while I have not yet received my Bachelor's of Arts from the institution I am a mere handful of credits away from earning it (9, to be exact), an accomplishment I am attempting to achieve by transferring credits over from The Community College of Rhode Island. While attending UNH, I wrote for the school's newspaper, The New Hampshire, edited my fellow writer's work, and eventually went on to intern and temporarily work for our local Valley Breeze.
While I have never conducted a formal tutoring session, I have edited the work of my peers and more recently assisted my girlfriend's younger sister with the completion of her college essay. From my experience, I have found that I p ... read more

My comments on tutoring Poetry : Whether free verse, or ABAB or ABBA, i am a poet Wiz. I Started out writing lyrics for my band, and that grew into free verse, discovering new metaphors and similes, for each given situation

I have always been a hands on learner, so that is mostly the way i portray my lessons, by doing, instead of readin. However i also see the need in having to sit down and Get to work, because some thing are better learned on paper
i am just a twenty year old college student, Who has learned a lot in this world, and looking to pass it on to whomever it might effect. Very caring, musical, and a great people person. I have mostly learned all my people skills when i was a waiter at T.G.I. Fridays, and that combined with my love of learning brings me to this tutor position

I prefer an interactive approach to teaching. My goal is to help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills by themselves, limiting their dependence on tutoring or other guidance. For younger children, I have experience teaching grammar in an innovative game-setting.

Poetry is one of my top subjects! Deep knowledge of poetic composition and comprehension. Undergraduate Thesis focused on 21st century Postmodern Women's Poetry.

I recently completed a degree in Creative Writing with a focus on poetry, fiction, literature, and literary and cultural theory. Completion of a thesis focusing on the deep investigation of language and narrative as they function in Postmodern Women's Poetics, with a corresponding lecture presented at Goddard College on the manifestation of the gender binary through the entrance into language and the symbolic order, and how the semioclasm of postmodern text and the interrogation of classical feminism might open up space for a new non hierarchical access to language. I also just finished 2+ years of interning at the St. Marks Poetry Project in New York City, as well as occasional involvement at Poets House, Bluestockings Bookstore Collective & Activist Center, ABC No Rio Zine Library, and the publication Showpaper, working among some of the most respected writers, artists and teachers in ... read more

With a little work, you will get there!

Being an undergraduate at WPI and haven taken several Advanced Placement classes in areas outside of math and science, I consider myself a very well rounded student. I was also strongly considered for a MASH program here at the University, or "Math and Science Help", as a Section Leader/Tutor. Going through a lower-middle class urban high school, I was known as that "smart kid" and would often led study groups outside of class to prepare for tests.
I have struggled with the areas I am not proficient in, so I understand what it is to be frustrated and confused. My teaching style is presenting various approaches to the same idea, in hopes that at least one will click, and better yet, each approach with solidify an idea or concept that much more.
