I begin with an individual assessment that takes account of the student’s perception of the problem and the academic goals he/she needs to meet. Then, having determined what it is reasonable to accomplish, I work through repetitive assignments and increasingly complex examples to raise the student’s standard of satisfaction and equip him/her with the critical skills necessary to recognize where his work succeeds and where it does not. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I was a hands on learner and often use hands on methods to teach when possible. I have taught every level from kindergarten to college level and feel comfortable doing so.
