My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I know a great deal about phonics and have tested well in this subject. Have always done well teaching phonics to elementary students.

Graduated from Staunton School of Cosmetology, Staunton, Va. 1980. Have had my own cosmetology business from then to the present. Southside Community College, massage therapy, included anatomy and physiology, 2013. Studied business and teaching, at VCU, 1971-72, did not complete degree program.

I am a recent high school graduate. I graduated in the top fourth of my class. My GPA is a 3.48. My best subject is math. I enjoy helping and working with others to help them succeed. I completed a class in high school named Teach Cadet where I learned the basics about education and the importance of being a versatile teacher. I was able to work with children from head start to elementary level. I also was a member of two organizations at school where I worked with sixth graders about the importance of goals and worked with fourth graders about the importance of team work.

Lawyer Turned Homeschooling Mom Can Make Learning Fun!

I have a law degree, but most of my experience comes from working with my own kids and spending hundreds of hours volunteering at their schools helping other children. I home schooled my children for 3 years for the middle school years and so I have experience motivating the surly teen who has no motivation to work as well as the young child that just wants to play. I also taught my children and many others how to read at very young ages and have perfected the technique for teaching children math and reading who love to move. One of my children had ADD and so I know how to work well with this issue. I also have a technique for teaching multiplication and math to very young children. Children's church is where a year of my experience comes from. I would guide a group of children during the service and would spend individual time with those who wanted to brush up on their reading and writing. I enjoyed every minute of this experience and can say I made an impact in those children's lives.
I love working with children of all ages. I can say I am patient enough to deal with elementary students being that I've done so before. A Little Bit About Me...

For the last seven years, I have taught and tutored English to adults who speak other languages. In the last two years, I have added tutoring students in grades 3-12. While teaching English as a Second Language at a local college, I was a lead lab instructor for two years. Students work with me on pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. They also work on improving their test taking skills. I have a Masters Degree in the area of Child Development and Family Life, and a Bachelors Degree in the areas of History and English.
We do not all learn to speak, read and write languages in the same way. Most children begin learning phonics by sounding out letters and learning what items represent that sound and that letter, i.e. A is for apple; A sounds like “aaaaaaaaaaaaaa”. Children begin learning phonics from parents, siblings, videos, and music at a very early age (2-4 years old) even before entering school. Phonics involves the relationship between sounds and written symbols, whereas phonemic awareness involves sounds in spoken words.
