These questions help the student focus on the subject and help me find out what they already know. From there, I can guide them through an investigation of the subject by continuing a logical sequence of questions. When we reach a point where the student can not answer my questions, I stop asking and start explaining. By then, the student is focused, interested, and ready to hear what I have to say.
