Experience Summary
My education, travel and work experience combined have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to be a great Social Studies tutor. I graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2008 with a BA in History and a minor in Russian. Also, I have spent a combined total of over two years studying, working, and vacationing abroad. I have witnessed first-hand the culture and history of places like Italy, Russia, and Ukraine, just to name a few. After I graduated from college, I began teaching 5th grade at Houston ISD’s Outdoor Education Center and remained there for a year and a half. I am currently student teaching in a World History/AP World History class at a Garland high school.
Teaching Style
I believe that an effective teacher sees him/herself as a guide on a path to discovery, not just a lecturer. When I teach, I like to start by asking strategic questions. These questions help the student focus on the subject and help me find out what they already know. From there, I can guide them through an investigation of the subject by continuing a logical sequence of questions. When we reach a point where the student can not answer my questions, I stop asking and start explaining. By then, the student is focused, interested, and ready to hear what I have to say.
