My comments on tutoring Geography : I can tutor students in grades K-8 and high school if needed.

I am a cettified teacher in the state of Texas in both Special Education. I am certified to teach all levels of special education grades K-12 and regular education grades 1-8. I taught special education grade 1=5 for nine years. I taught special education grades 6-8 for four years. I taught regular education grades 5-8 for a year. In that year, I taught 5th - 8th grade English and 5th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies. I volunteered in a PreKindergarten class for a year so that I could expand my knowledge of age groups that I have not previously served.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a sophomore mathematics major at the University of Texas at El Paso. I have taught a GED class for adults facilitated by the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) and the YWCA. I have 6 years of tutoring experience and other programs under which I tutored include the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and JROTC.
My teaching style generally varies based on who I am tutoring/teaching. I generally treat my students as adults and under the assumption that they will go to college. I also tend to go a little beyond what is covered in the subject (especially in math) as a preparation for whatever course may come next (i.e. I would probably give a prealgebra student full fledged algebra work in order to prepare him/her for the next year).

Experienced, certified, enthusiastic instructor! :)

As a 2009 graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, holding a Bachelor of Arts, with a minor in English and American Literature, and with the teaching experience that I have gained in various fields since 2004, I feel that I am well-suited for this job. I have taught Reading ESL at the Transmountain EPCC Campus, as well as French at L’Alliance Francaise d’El Paso, and Spanish/ESL/French at La Paz Language Academy. I will also be teaching a Spanish beginners’ course at the History Museum of El Paso, giving evening classes to staff and community members, once a week, during the Fall semester of 2012. I have also tutored high school and college students in Ethics and in Literature courses, and still do so quite often. These positions enable me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering basic skills. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. ... read more

I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. Younger students I like to teach through play due to the fact that I am a firm believer that children learn through play.
I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school. At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored friend's children over the course of several years. I have taught religious studies for over 15 years to youth ages 14. I have worked extensively with children in my various lines of work in the mental health field and foster care. I love teaching and working with children and appreciate that no two children are the same nor do they learn the same way. I'm a strong believer that it's important to teach a child in a manner he/she is comfortable with, whether they pick up a concept quickly or need time.
I hold a degree in Organization & Corporate Communication with a minor in English, Rhetoric/Writing Studies and 14 years experience in public relations throughout my various jobs. Grammar, writing, composition writing, essays, grant writing, are all skills that I excel in. More importantly than any of that is that I enjoy writing and and enjoy reading books on grammar.

In the early sessions I ask my students a lot of questions to figure out their goals, problems, current knowledge and learning style. Based on what I find I build a teaching strategy. I then help them find appropriate materials if they don't already own some. I try a few methods to find the one that works best. If I'm teaching a language I like to combine grammar, vocabulary building exercises, as well as speaking and listening. I give them small quizzes to measure their progress. I help them find fun level-appropriate reading and listening materials. I give them sources online and information on what types of dictionaries are useful. I give them my email and tell them to contact me if they ever have any questions.

I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children on a one-to-one basis because I beleive that students progress more if they get individual attention. I get to see the students' faces light up when they "get it" and knowing that I have made some impact in their lives is very rewarding.
I have an MA in history as well as a BA in antropology from New Mexico State University and graduated with honors. I recently finished up the school year tutoring students in grades first through fourth. While teaching at a charter schhool, I also taught and tutored third grade students in reading and math. My teaching style is very flexible. Because I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults, the ability to adapt to the learner's ability level is especially important. Not all people learn at the exact pact, therefore, flexibility is essential as well as non traditional teaching methods. Some non traditional teaching methods I have applied include interpreting math problems through real life situations. I find that some kids will relate to NBA references while others prefer food examples. Either way, it keeps the child interested which is the key role of a good tutor.
Although I listed only 2 years of prior instruction, I have taught over 5 years of business/finance related material. On a school level basis, I personally have a child with ADHD that I tutor at home. I am especially proficient in English/Language Arts. My experience working with a diverse student community has enabled me to experience multiple learning capacities along with the added privilege of experiencing different cultures. I graduated with a double major in political science and philosophy and later completed my masters degree in political science. I currently teach government courses at a local community college. Some of my proudest accomplishments have been away from teaching government such as teaching ESL, GED, and computer applications. Currently, I estimate I have graduated approximately 265 students in GED programs. In addition, I have contracted in public schools to tutor students in academic subjects such as reading, spelling, and grammar.

I have good analytical and diagnostic skills. I am able to take students at their present levels of cognitive ability and help them to progress and also reinforce concepts that the students might have missed and need to master for complete understanding. I am patient and encourage students to ask questions and offer suggestions. I firmly believe that teaching basic skills and study habits will create successful lifelong learners.
I have always loved teaching. I never had a desire to divert from teaching and become a counselor or an administrator. I have taught students from kindergarten to community college. I do not have a certification in math but I have taught k-8 math in special education classes and in mainstream classes through inclusion. I am familiar with many hands-on techniques and with drawing and writing explanations of the operation that was practiced. I have ta ... read more

Each child is different. On a one on one setting, it would be advantageous to allow the student some freedom so that their learning style leads to maximum learning. My goal is to teach the student to love self-learning so that the student appreciates learning without a tutor or teacher present. All children can learn in an environment conducive to learning given the tools needed to cope with whatever stress may be interfering with their education process. I strive to connect with the student so that the student knows I am willing to impart a love of learning to them, not just give them a bunch of facts.
The subjects I have taught are Health, Texas History, Basic Science, American History, Spanish 1-3, World Geography, Biology, Language Arts including writing, spelling and grammar. Even though these subject are outside of my major, I took the time to prepare. We also know that t ... read more
