While I have worked with a range of different students in many different subject areas, I have discovered a great love for the over-all tutoring experience. I began as a volunteer helping first graders learn to read and now I work daily with undergrad and graduate level college students, helping them with research papers, critical essays and thesis work. Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer). I also like to use real world examples when I can from my past experience, and encourage the student to do so as well. When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I have always had a strong love of English! I enjoyed assisting fellow college students with proofreading and technical writing skills before working as an Advertising Proofreader at the Echo Press in Alexandria, MN. Following that, I completed an internship at the Minneapolis-based magazine Today's Style (no longer in circulation) as a writer.
