A Little Bit About Me...

I teach the basic concepts of acting through Stanislavski and Chekhov. I focus on character development as well as scene analysis. When analyzing a play or story, I focus on the basic concepts such as inciting incidents, major dramatic question, climax, the point of attack, resolution, the theme, and characters. I work with the student so he/she can find these elements and talk about them and expound on them. I work as fast or as slow as the student needs.
I earned my A.A. in Theatre Arts at College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida. I then moved to Lakeland and earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Last summer I was an assistant teacher for the summer camp at the Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida.

More About This Tutor...

I earned my BA in 1989 in Texas. I moved to Florida in 1990 and realized I wanted to be a teacher. My local community college, however, did not offer any courses to help my earn a teaching certification. Then I read an article in my local newspaper three years ago. I enrolled in the Teacher Preparation Institute at the same community college and am now certified to teach. I held an in class room teaching position last year from 10/2008 - 6/2009. The Lake County School District has undergone many changes and unfortunately let go of all 1-3 year teachers. I was one of those teachers. I miss working with children. I loved the bonds and connections I made with each and every one of my "kids". I look forward to reaching new students.

A Little Bit About Me...

It truly does take a village to raise a child as the saying goes. I have been able to make many positive differences in many childrens lives by tutoring, volulnteering and working with them. I am able to teach in a variety of ways, which as most people know, everyone learns differently. Some people are visual learners, meaning they learn better through the written word. While others are auditory (listening) or kinesthetic (learn by doing). I believe that I can provide the best education possible by teaching in a variety of ways while making it fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

With a degree in Special Education and a Masters in Education I have learned about how children learn best. I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.
I believe with the right supports all children can learn. I have tutored students with special needs. My goal is to help the child build on their strengths and believe they can improve on their weaknesses. My teaching style is to set objectives that challenge students and support them by building on what they already know. I am extremely patient and professional and well liked by my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

At a Wall Street bank, I trained new hires in the proper transmission of Telex and SWIFT messages. I later moved to SR&D as a Programmer Analyst. I worked in the creation and maintenance of programs needed by the bank. For 12 years, I recruited and trained independent salespeople, while conducting my own demonstrations. My income averaged upwards of $50k annually. From 1998 to 2008, I worked in an overnight freight setting as a supervisor where I was responsible for orientation and training of new hires. I reported extensively via email, spreadsheets, and on the ASR 400 system. Currently, I am in the Educator Preparation Institute where I am in the last months of qualification as a Florida "out-of-field" teacher.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love math and I love teaching. The primary aspects of my teaching style are patience, and respect for the child as an individual. Both are important because all children can learn, they just learn in different ways. By being patient, getting to know them and respecting their individuality, I can make math less intimidating and more relevant to their lives. If a student feels a skill is relevant, he will be more engaged, and thus more successful.
As a lifelong learner, I value education highly and aspire to help others do the same. I have been tutoring students in Math since graduating from college over 20 years ago. I've found that many students don't succeed at math, not because they are "dumb" or lazy, but because they are either intimidated or just not interested. I have developed solutions to both problems. I encourage students to confront their feelings of intimid ... read more

I believe that all children can learn, maybe "not in the same way or on the same day" but at their own pace and to their learning style. Therefore I endeavor to teach/tutor to students' learning style and to their preferred learning modality. I use data to drive my instruction so I pretest, teach, review, test, reteach and retest where necessary until skills are acquired. With my degree and experience in special education, I have a deep understanding of what each student needs to achieve their best and this gives me the advantage as I teach different levels and courses. I have an excellent track record of student achievement.
After graduating from Teachers College and also earning a bachelor's degree in sociology, teaching at the elementary level I desired to further my education in an area where I could better assist students to be successful. I have since earned an M. Ed in Spec ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the curriculum should be tailored to the learning style of the child and not the other way around. Learning especially reading is a slow process where small steps towards the final goal count more than big leaps which are not lasting. Students can guide a teacher towards their ability and it is our job as teachers to pickup on that and use it to the child's advantage. I would like to provide the best possible solution for each child and not force the child to struggle with something he or she doesn't understand. Seeing the progress in a child is very satisfying for me therefore that is my overall goal.

I have a Masters Degree in Education with a broad base of subjects which I have taught. In Language Arts I most often taught Composition and American Literature althought I have experience in related areas such as Poetry, Speech, Creative Writing, and English Literature. In the Social Studies area, I specialized in American History but have also taught Civics, Economics, and Art History as well as Life Skills classes. I am currently preparing to teach a 10 week session at my Church on the History and Traditions of the Methodist Church.
While I am a firm and "no-nonsense" teacher, I make every effort to help the student enjoy the material. My goal is for the student to not only learn the needed material but at the same time, discern how the material is meaningful to each of them personally. I believe "connecting and relating" are key to retaining information.

More About This Tutor...

As a teenager, I learned the importance of having role models, both in and out of the classroom. Some of my biggest influences are old teachers and coaches. After I graduated high school, I attended the University of Florida, where I majored in Telecommunications, and had an outside study in English. This led me to substitute in Marion County for a year. After one year of subbing, I decided I wanted to enrich the lives of adolescents full-time. I became a teacher at my former high school, Vanguard, where I stayed for two years. I taught twelfth grade English, and then turned to teaching Intensive Reading to sophomores.

It is my belief that everyone is able to learn, and what produces that ability is having support. So many instructors give up on those not favored as "prized" students, and in turn, these students just slide through. I know it takes time and effort to get some students enthused about education, and I make it my goal to help them with this.
