I like to teach as if I am one friend talking to another. I find that this is the most relaxed way to encourage learning. While a relaxed atmosphere is important, my parents (both elementary and high school teachers) showed me the importance of completing objectives. I will push you, my friend, to learn as much as possible - and retain that information - during our time together.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a very strong passion towards teaching. While many teachers tend to go towards adminstration afters 10 years of teaching, I have no desire to go that route. I want to remain teaching in this subject area because I find joy in math, and I want to help students find joy in math as well. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is my tutoring style as I do mostly tutoring. I work with students to determine the missing math procedures or concepts. When a student misses a question, I do not simply show them the solution or correct answer. I solve the problem with the student (without looking at the answer) by discussing the approach (procedure) together. In this way, we share the approach to the solution and weak spots are revealed.
I have had a very successful career as an Engineer/Plant Manager. I changed careers and I am now Teaching/Tutoring. I teach/tutor High School math at an inter-city school (IPS). I also work for a Huntington Learning Center working with high-achieving high school students trying to improve their SAT and ACT math scores.

I think that I do a good job presenting information and ideas in multiple ways to reach learners on a variety of levels. I differentiate my instruction by coming up with activities to get students out of the typical paper-pencil work, and relate the work to real-life activities. After graduating with a degree in elementary education from Goshen College, I have gained many valuable experiences in the educational field. I have worked for two years in the elementary level at the first and second grades.
