A Little Bit About Me...

Since I have been around 15, starting with my growing nieces, it has always stood out to me how the child's brain develops. Seeing one of my nieces grasp material quicker than the other. I took up two years of Early Childhood Education in high school as a co-op class and learned a lot about the development of children. I didn't want it to stop there so I signed up for City Year. which is a nonprofit organization which focuses of students in low-income neighborhoods with a high rate of high school drop-outs and our ultimate goal is to work with children so they are on the aim line to graduate 12th grade. A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, I understand the high expectations and the stress that it can cause a college student, especially coming from a school where most professors expected students to teach themselves concepts. I have earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering which has enabled me to gain understanding in math and science. I have experience in tutoring students in mathematics, physics 1 and thermodynamics.
I love teaching because of the feeling of helping someone who is truly struggling in class! I believe that everyone can learn, but some teachers styles don't match up with the students learning style. I am a very patient and considerate person. I am a firm believer that many students can't learn strictly through theory and need to be walked through example problems. I have been a school librarian/media specialist for 26 years. I have worked with students in grades K-12. My role as a librarian enabled me to interact with students of all learning levels. Students who struggled would come to me to find materials that they could understand more easily. During times that I did not have classes in the library, I was usually assigned to tutor students who were in the low percentile groups based on MCT scores. I helped them with language, reading, and math.

Since undergraduate work, I have worked in the business world, primarily in the manufacturing arena. My academic experiences have continued on some level. In times past I tutored high school math students in North Carolina. I am proficient is equations, inequalities, Cartesian Coordinate System, polynomials, factoring and functions.
My style focuses on the processes in arriving at a solution. The learning goal in mathematics is to impart understanding of the process of working toward a solution, not attaining the solution.
