Science is so cool to me, especially seeing all the strange ways the world does things when you know how it works. I have worked on numerous teaching in science colloquium, made laser light shows for kids to talk about lasers, and developed specialized science intro courses for college freshmen at wvu.
I like to stay relaxed and have fun, telling a few jokes along the way. It's hard to learn things if you're not interested, and even more so if you're struggling with it! I push students a bit once I'm sure they understand something, and I always try to get them to be at their very best.

Good at explaining things so students can understand them.

I have Algebra One and the Principles of Physics. In a small private school, there were two students who were failing at the end of the semester. With the permission of the headmaster and the parents, I gave each of them a grade of "Incomplete" and then tutored them through the Summer until they could each pass the final exam. They both earned B- grades and, more importantly, succeeded in Algebra Two.

My teaching style is to review the fundamentals. If I find deficiencies, I address these first. I then introduce the subject core using applications that the student can relate to. I get students to participate in solving problems by working through the steps in turn. I keep track of student preparation for accreditation by giving home work assignments. I keep notes on lessons and student progress. While offering words of encouragement, I keep the student informed about the progress and indicate that there is still time for excellence.

I have not yet become a classroom teacher. I have already applied to summer school programs throughout the state. As a coach, I feel that it is essential to inspire students/my student athletes. If you can ingite a desire to learn in students, I believe everything falls into place after that. I enjoy placing my student athletes into small groups to discuss for certain periods of time, and then I like to spend the rest of the time talking to them as a whole. After every session I coach, I have my student athletes write me a note after every lesson explaining to me what they have learned.
