I have been teaching, volunteering and tutoring for 25 years. I owned an in home child care and wrote all the curriculum for 10 years. I have taught "Train the Trainer" classes for teachers in preschool and elementary school. I have worked for over a year with SES programs tutoring at schools, in homes, in the evenings and weekends. I've enjoyed working with kids who teach me as much as I teach them. I believe it takes a special talent and caring to teach kids when their home environment doesn't support learning. I feel that the relationship formed between tutor and student is as important as the information being taught. A sincere concern for people is the foundation for successful and influential teaching. I gladly spent extra time planning an English lesson if it allowed the student to connect better with the material. To keep interest levels high, I would teach a lesson and then create practice exercises around one of the student's favorite hobbies such as cooking, surfing, or music. A Little Bit About Me...

I try to make each lesson unique for my various learners. I have been known to teach in historical clothing, using props from the time period and a smattering of words in other languages. I also incorporate hands on learning such as crafts and some food making. I believe if a method is not working for my students, I change my approach. I also teach in language they are able to understand since their vocabulary is much different than what we spoke in 1970 as well as referneces current to them. I have found Tupoc Shakur's poetry is more well received than Shakespeare with todays youth.
