Calculus I Tutoring

Are you taking a calculus class and realizing that you are not an Einstein? Calculus is definitely one of the hardest math classes a student can take. Whether taking calculus in high school or in college, understanding the concepts of calculus takes a lot of studying and a lot of effort. The longer a student waits to get help, the less likely they are to catch up in time to save their grade. Students can succeed in a calculus class; it just may take some extra help to nail down and understand the concepts of this upper level math class.

I've been tutoring at a college level for over two and a half years. I aim to take the more complex material and make it super easy to comprehend. Students have very stressful lives on their own; learning needs to be made fun and engaging. I attempt to do just that. Personally, I struggled with math in high school, so I came up with fun, easy ways to remember what to do. Learning is a process, like any other. The most effective way to learn is to first start by figuring out how you learn as an individual and using specific techniques that will make information more meaningful to you. I'm very familiar with a vast array of these techniques, because I've tried them all on myself. I'll give you the tools to make the most out of you educational endeavors. I'm a visual learner, but I incorporate several different teaching styles to make course material meaningful to the students I tutor.

In my disciplines, the value of understanding totally outweighs rote memorization and learning of “recipes” for solving problems. I believe students understand new concepts in terms of their previous experience and background. I attempt to link previous experience to new experience and promote meaningful learning. I believe the instructor should be like a coach. In education as in athletics, he or she should be regarded as an individual who helps the student realize his or her full potential. I have master’s degrees in Mathematics and Statistics with related work in Physics and Astronomy. My 20 years in education includes teaching at various colleges and high schools providing instruction in Statistics, Physics, Calculus and College Algebra. One of my more gratifying experiences was as a Learning Center Instructor working one-on-one with students in a wide variety of subjects. More recen

I believe in using technology and tools to keep students interested in understanding what is being taught. I have many nieces and nephews that I work directly with to help them grasp and understanding of what is being taught and applied. I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can reason through it themselves in a test situation. I am currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Throughout my education and short career I have developed teaching skills through tutoring, teaching labs to middle school students, mentoring high school students and giving informational talks on environmental issues to the public. I enjoy teaching and I feel that I have a gift for explaining science and math

I worked for 16 years as a high school science and math instructor at a small school which necessitated that I teach all the courses in the 9-12 curriculum in rotation. These courses included all levels of mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. I qualified to teach AP courses and wrote a number of integrated curriculum for my school district. I also tutor in the school's tutoring center because many of the students need the additional assistance. I would describe my teaching style as being essentially constructivist. I strive to show students how the subject matter is relevant to them and help them see the benefit derived from mastering a subject area. I try to analyze the student's learning style and their current weaknesses in order to tailor the instruction to meet their needs. I believe I am patient and respectful. I enjoy teaching in an atmosphere of mutual respect and

Since a child, I have always been curious of the world around me. My interests culminated with the completion of two degrees in the natural sciences. I consider myself a true inter-disciplinarian, supplementing both my degrees with courses in applied sciences, economics and the arts, to improve my understanding of the connections between science and the world. I also believe this is the reason I have purposed myself as a mentor or instructor for much of my life. I find a true fascination with everyday phenomenon, and enjoying sharing that meaning with others. I have been able to do this through instruction as a public school science teacher, a private school science and math teacher, and many years of teaching at an equestrian academy. I find that there is something fascinating that we encounter on a daily basis. I enjoy bringing those events to light, and fostering student interest in t
