My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I have a Bachelors in Applied Arts and Sciences from Texas State University and worked as an interpreter for a Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in Texas for 14 years and much of that time was in the elementary school setting. My job description as an interpreter included being a teacher's aid and a tutor. I interpreted all subjects and so I am very familiar working with students at this age. Because I was in the general educational classrooms I not only tutored the Deaf students, I also tutored the hearing students who needed help.

I love to see students "Get it!" when I tutor. I am patient, tenacious and I don't give up until a student understands! One of my areas of expertise is creating visual materials for students who are visual learners. I will draw, use manipulatives and anything else it takes to explain a concept. I worked for 14 years as an interpreter/tutor for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and tutor to hearing students as well. (from 2002-2016) Twelve years of my experience has been working with elementary aged and middle school aged students, though I have worked with students from pre-school to high school ages as well. (However; middle school and high school math is not my expertise!) I can also tutor high school and college students who are taking American Sign Language (ASL) as their foreign language credit. I LOVE teaching and believe that one-on-one work (and small group work) is highly effective. I strive to become my students' friend, while also maintaining a professional work environment. My strong background in working with children ages 3 and up that have come from different backgrounds and that have had unique needs has helped me to cater specifically to my students' individual needs.

Hands-on with visuals and manipulatives. Kids learn by doing and actively engaging themselves in learning. This is a good picture of my teaching style. I love teaching children with a robust flavor of learning. Make it fun, and children usually will remember how they have learned a new skill. I taught fifth grade for many years and was always the testing grade for the state of Oklahoma. I have many years of experience in preparing students for testing.
