I am about to complete my first year at IU School of Dentistry. I completed my B.S. in Biology at IPFW with a 4.0 GPA and love learning! Science is my specialty but I enjoy other subjects as well. I have experience so far tutoring college-level genetics, both high school and college-level statistics, assisting a student getting her GED online, as well as teaching organic and general chemistry to a student getting ready to take the DAT. I would love to work with any age, but high school and college level is where my expertise lies.
I am an upbeat and positive person and am willing to adapt to students' needs. I'm willing to work through homework with students, create study plans, review notes or use whatever other methods the student finds helpful.

My success in tutoring was more visible to me at ITT in the period between 1995 to 2006. I got to know the student's problems with the subject matter and was able to help them more accurately than in the classroom. I was very pleased with the results of this process. The course involved statistics, math, physics, calculus.
Presently retired. 25 years of teaching locally at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne and at ITT in Fort Wayne. Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in being able to impart that knowledge of someone else. However, each person learns differently. Whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one tutoring, it is imperative that the teacher learn how each student learns. This allows them to teach in a manner that produces the greatest results in students. It is also very important that a teacher cares for their students, that a student knows they are being taught by someone who wants them to learn and is excited about their education. I have recently graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with my BS in Mathematics and Mathematics Education.
