I teach a hands on curriculum as much as possible. I constantly have visuals, or hands on manipulatives to helps students gain a better understanding. I believe that it's important to understand students' learning styles, and try to teach in a manner that "taps" into the various styles. I put a lot of pride into my career as a teacher, and am determined not to give up on students. Often I feel that such a great factor in a child's success is their self esteem. I match my teaching style to the learning style of each individual. My first session with the student is when I can determine whether their learning style is visual, audial, tactile, kinesthetic or a combination of these. I then write a prescription of study with the student that include several objectives and a timeline to achieve these goals. I work with the student to promote a sense of achievement and to build confidence for future learning. Gaining and sharing knowledge has been a driving force throughout my life.
