I enjoy teaching at a high school level or above. I am very hands on. I am a bit of a story teller - rearranging the circumstances of the problem into an issue more easily related to by the student. I am very patient and relaxed - there are very few people who have a lower stress level than I do.
At MSU, I first worked as a Supplemental Instructor and then became a Graduate Assistant (before I even earned my Bachelor's degree) in the School of Business. I also worked in the math department as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. I have taught business, accounting and math classes at the college level when instructor was absent. Accounting is by far my strong suit, followed by Excel, Economics and Math, however I do not use high-level math often, although I got A's in everything throughout college.

During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement, I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments. I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction.
